Once you have made the decision to purchase a ScaleBlaster electronic water conditioner, there are a few things you need to assess.
Which ScaleBlaster Model Do I Need?
Before making your purchase, take time to determine which ScaleBlaster model you need. You want to make sure you purchase the proper size electronic water descaler to ensure efficient limescale removal and prevention. The SB-75 is designed for homes under 4,000 square feet with calcium hardness levels up to 19 grains per gallon or 325 parts per million. The SB Elite is designed for homes up to 5,000 square feet with calcium hardness levels up to 35 grains per gallon or 660 parts per million. You must purchase a unit with the capacity to handle the level of hard water you have coming into your home if want to effectively prevent limescale.
Water Hardness
We encourage you to test your water’s hardness before purchasing your ScaleBlaster electronic water descaler. You can buy a hard water test kit from a local pool supply or hardware store. Perform the test and note the results. As mentioned in the section above, determining the calcium harness levels in your hard water is important when it comes to selecting the proper size unit. Perform the test again 90-120 days after installing your new electronic water conditioner system. You will be amazed at the results!
Type of Pipe
Electronic water conditioners work with all types of pipe. If you have Copper, PVC, CPVC or PEX, your new ScaleBlaster can be installed by wrapping a signal cable around the pipe on the incoming line into your home. Galvanized pipe’s magnetic qualities prevent the signal from penetrating it. If you have galvanized pipe, you will simply need to replace about 6” – 8” inches of it with a non-magnetic pipe such as copper or PVC to accommodate the signal cable. This can be either be a DIY job, or can be handled by a handyman or plumber.
